About Claims-Made Coverage
Coverage will respond to incidents arising on or after the policy retroactive date and which are reported during the term of the policy. A policy may be endorsed to respond to incidents that occurred before the policy start date. The retroactive date usually reflects the date the policy started. As long as the claims made policy is continuously renewed, an insured may report claims for incidents that occurred in previous policy years, back to the beginning of the claims made coverage.
Reporting A Claim
In the event of a claim, you or your insured can contact the insurance company directly with the contact information found in the policy. If you have any questions, please contact us at 201-847-9175. If you prefer, you can report the claim directly to us at PLRisk Specialty Insurance Agency LLC at info@plrisk.com, or via fax at 201-847-9174. We require all claims be reported in writing, and we will forward the information to the insurance company.
Be sure the following information is included when you report an incident or claim to us:
- Correct Insured Name (including DBAs)
- Correct Policy Number
- Correct Policy Effective Dates
Please make sure to include your full contact information including name, phone number, email address and fax number in addition to the information listed above. To ensure that we did receive the claim report, please follow up with us. PLRisk Specialty Insurance Agency LLC will report the claim immediately to the insurance company and confirm receipt of the claim. We will also provide your office with confirmation that the claim was sent to the insurance company and provide you with the contact information.
As nearly all professional liability policies are written on a claims made basis, it is very important that claims are reported in compliance with the policy provisions. Of the utmost importance is to REPORT CLAIMS IMMEDIATELY. Generally, a claim that has been made must be reported as soon as is practical, consistent with the terms and conditions of the policy. Because of their nature, insurers and your client’s defense counsel will need time to consider a claim and develop a response. More importantly, a late response may void coverage.
Potential claims must also be reported. Many professional liability policies require the reporting of an incident that could lead to a claim in the future. All potential incidents that may develop into a claim should be reported to the insurer in accordance with the terms of the policy. Not only does diligent claim reporting protect the insured’s interests, it also provides an opportunity to head off potentially litigious situations.
Requesting A Loss Run
We can provide you with a loss run to provide to the insurance company during the renewal process. To facilitate the loss run request, please be sure the information below is provided. We will deliver these reports to you as soon as possible, but turnaround time can vary depending upon the carrier.
The following information is required for all requests, for each year requested:
- Correct Insured Name (including DBAs)
